You don't see to many 35 yard field goals in HS football, especially at the class A level man. The only schools that I would have any confidence in that even being a possibility around here is Clintwood, and Haysi at the A level.

How are they going to work on going for one point from 35 yards away? That happens maybe once a year if that, I couldn't tell you the last time I seen that in high school football. In that situation asking a high school kid to kick a 35 yard exp is a bit much I think, especially with the hashes and goal post situation. Best situation for Norton after the penalty was to run all the recievers on a streak and pray.

Well its 20 yards for an extra pt. If a kid can make that he should be able to make one from 35 yards.
Granted it will be harder and with much more pressure but hell it would be better then throwing one up in the endzone and having it batted down IMO
The extra point would have been centered up for them and yes the goal post are more narrow but it would have been better then throwing up a prayer IMO and that is exactely what they did, there was about 4 Riverheads that could have batted it down or picked it off.

Guys let's just be honest. Burton got screwed. The one official made a bad call.
My only thing is why.
It was no secret Burton had problems in the kicking game.
And to be honest. We have folks here who vist from all over. And www.vapreps.com does also.
People learn some teams weaknesses.
I hate to say it. But maybe this one official was biase.
It does happen.
Burton could not make a kick longer than 13 yds. if that.
One reason they had been working on the 2 pt. conversions.
Face it. Burton in the end never stood a chance with the one official.
It happens. It shouldn't have. But it did. I'd protest it and i'd raise a fuss.
One thing that kills me is why, the VHSL didn't use officials who have done highschool games all season and have a rating system to chose it's officials.
Point blank. Burton got screwed.
3 yds and a biase ref. left a bunch of kids wondering. Could we of gotten that 3 yds and that title.
With the official. Well all that is left is questions.
And many letters to the VHSL asking questions.
But little to no response. From a group that is all about money and not about the kids.
I had a chance to watch the tape of the game. Sometimes you just get a feel for the game and what's going on. Burton had the momentum, and I am confident they would have made the PAT provided they hadn't had the 15 yard penalty. And I didn't see ANYTHING that warranted that penalty. The subsequent "no-call" on the pass interference confirmed my belief that JIB got the short end of the officiating stick. I was going to keep my nose out of it until I watched the tape. I sent my own e-mail to the VHSL. Perhaps contacts from folks outside the JIB circle will give more credence to the complaint and prompt the VHSL to give this matter more than a passing glance. If not, they will forever lose any respect and cedibility they may have had in this area.

I agree, but enough is enough!
It does not matter what we say, it's not going to change anything.
The forums are for talking about things such as these but there are at least 3-4 opens topics all basically talking about the same things.
Refs, 2-3 bad calls in the game, emails to VHSL, and state championship sites.
I just dont see why we have to start so many topics and talk basically about the same stuff in all of them. ha-ha

I can see one maybe two topics about this but my God there are 15 maybe 16 threads on how Norton got screwed! And two more added in the last 10 minutes! Come on people just post on one or two threads! Dont make a new one every time you feel you need to ad something. Put it in one of the threads already open. Please!

Care to fill in the blanks there buddy? being that the form has been down for a bit I reread my post and still agree with what I said before. Was it a cheap call? YES. Was Burton a borderline undisciplined team all season? Yes Can/Should Burton use this situation for motivation next season? Yes
What am I missing?
